3 Main Challenges for Missionaries Overseas
-
Most church planting and mission organizations require that missionaries are financially supported through donations from friends, family, and churches. Although this is biblical, this is a huge responsibility for missionaries, draining a lot of time, energy, and resources.
As a nonprofit organization, we also rely on the generosity of the Church. However, at Ember, we believe that using business to support missions is also biblical and an invaluable framework if used correctly.
As an organization that specializes in planting small non-profit businesses, we desire to partner with missionaries so that they can have a sustainable source of income to support their families and outreach and not rely solely on donations.

A majority of the unreached people groups live in countries that are difficult for American missionaries to get a Visa. Usually, mission organizations require missionaries to find a “professional identity” so that they are able to stay in the country. This can be very hard for missionaries and require them to create or find a job in addition to doing ministry.
Through our organization, missionaries can become “employed” at our coffee shops so that they can have a visa that allows them to stay in the country and serve.

Finding ways to engage with their community is key for international missions, but also very difficult as someone who is a foreigner.
Through our coffee shops, missionaries will have an organic way to engage with their community and serve everyday, just like in the states. The coffee shop space will also provide a great place for missionaries to disciple, worship, and do outreach.
